In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?
Our film 00:00:ZE:R0 has elements of a few different genres, however the main genre it fits is social realism as it follows the protagonist and allows the audience to see problems she faces such as being bullied and witnessing death, but the fact that she gains some sort of power to see when people are going to die, does not fit the social realistic genre but has a bit of a fantasy aspect in it.
Similarly to the short film I looked at in the planning stages, Colour Bleed our film is alike, because although it has many conventions of a social realistic film, it also has elements of artist fantasy idea that Colour Bleed has.

For example the girl in Colour Bleed starts bleeding our different colours, and in the screenshot from above it seems only she can see the colourful bird flying around. This is similar to our short film as the protagonist gains a power to see peoples timers, but only she can see. Also both these films share the way they both have no dialogue and the narrative is built purely through camera shots, editing and music.
From some feedback from the audience they said they liked that there is no dialogue in the film as they do not speak fluent English so they were still able to understand the film even though English is not their first language. This shows that ambient, diegetic sound we used (which is commonly found in social realistic films) was effective in our short film. The sound we used in the film was mainly added in Garageband for example the punching sound effects at the beginning and the soundtrack which flows through different scenes in the film.
When making the poster I used Kings Speech's film poster as reference for what information to put on the poster and which logos and layouts might be seen on them.
For our review we used the style of the magazine of Little White Lies.
(http://www.littlewhitelies.co.uk). We especially liked and used the edition which featured the film review 'Senna' for the colour, layout and titles. For example we used the colour drop tool in PhotoShop to copy the colour and used the white title and white score colours. In the bottom right corner by the page number we also added a small logo for the Hunger Games film which is going to be released this year. This is because, after we looked at previous editions we noticed that there is often a theme throughout the magazine depending on recent releases or topics which are highlighted in the magazine. To do the logo I downloaded a high quality image of the Hunger Games logo using large dimensions so the image isn't too pixelated. I then imported this to PhotoShop and changed the colour to black and white and deleted the background so it could easily be added to the film review.
Although we previously had issues with possible plagiarism with the film 2:20 our final product has many clear differences. For example our protagonist is female and gains the timers as some sort of power when she gets beaten up, and does not only see information/timers like in 2:20 when he puts on some form of 3D glasses.
How effective is the combination of your main product and your ancillary tasks?
I think the combination of the main product and ancillary tasks work well. This is because in both the poster and review the timers and the protagonist's isolation from everyone else is highlighted. This is done by depth of field as the protagonist is in focus yet everything in the background is blurry, which emphasises to the audience what they should be concentrating on. The subject of the short film also works work for our target audience of 16-25 as it covers relatable issues such as violence, bullying and suicide.
What have you learned from your audience feedback?
After asking for feedback from our target audience which is aged 16-25, we found out that although it was enjoyed by the target audience, it is sometimes interpreted in different ways. For example one person wrote and said they thought it could be about determinism.
Although the feedback that I received did not give much constructive criticism, and only whether they liked it or not, it still shows that the target audience did actually enjoy it.

We used audience feedback to decide on poster designs and asked which ones they preferred. These were designs I did in Photoshop (without the tagline and award logos) and I asked people which one they liked best. The outcome was either 1st or 3rd one. But overall the 1st one was the highest so we went with that.
How did you use new media technologies in the construction, research and planning and evaluation stages?
There is not enough here to mark. Why did you upload via your phone? This is risky in terms of layout, and you should not be doing something this important on the move! This is low level 1 work.
ReplyDeleteSome work posted by the deadline. Q1-3 have minimal content. Q4 is images only. Why is your work so unfinished by the deadline? You will lose marks again for time management Ella, and work is well below the standard you should be achieving.
