Editing - Rebekah

Here are some screenshots of the first basic edit of the scenes we got filmed on the 12/12/11

This is the scene where the character jumps of a building. In editing we had to put the greenscreen footage we shot in college, with the footage on a multistore car park in Croydon we shot on the 12th.

Filming in Croydon

On the 12th of December we went to Croydon and filmed the scene where a character jumps off a building.

Things that went well: Location worked well

Problems faced and what didn't work well: Loosing the light too quickly during the day, enabled us to only get one scene filmed. One issue with the location is whilst setting up for one of the shots we were interrupted by a member of the public who urinated on the area we wanted to use for the character being dead on the floor.

How we will improve next time: Go earlier in the day to the location so we have more time to film what we need.

Problems Faced So Far - Ella

In the planning stage we have had a few problems with our filming

  • We are trying to plan when everyone is free to act/film as our locations are quite far away, we need an hour or so to drive there. It also needs to be when it is still light as when we finish college at 4 its already too dark to film.

    • We have had issues with our actual idea as there are similar ideas already made.

    To Do List - Ella

    • Adapt our idea to make it more orignal
    • Organise a day for filming when everyone is free and not working etc.
    • Confirm who will be acting in the film and when they are available.
    • Sort out props. (Fake blood)

    Issues with Plagiarism - Ella

Unfortunatly, after we had thought of our idea we did further research and found out there were similar ideas already made. Therefore, have to change our idea so it is not exactly the same.

Screenshots from Saving Me. The music video gave us the inspiration of having counters over their heads which show how long someone has left to live.

Time and information about people - only they can see it. Time countdown (In Time) (Saving Me-Nickleback music video)

Seeing others countdown timer (2:20). After going on Virgin Media Shorts on the homepage it had the winner from last year, and saw the idea was very similar to ours. Instead the character uses glasses and sees time limits

    http://www.virginmediashorts.co.uk/film/1772/2-20

We know that we need to change our idea so it is not exactly the same as the short videos. So far our idea is different from 2-20 because firstly, our idea is set in the daytime (in Croydon) and the protagonist is going to be getting bullied and that is how they start seeing the timers. Secondly, in 2-20 the male character only sees the times when he puts on the 3D glasses, and he dies.

    Original possible ideas:

    Using a female protagonist
    Using a child protagonist
Drawings become real life (the opening)
Train journey - cross cut to character sitting on train, then to the events happening on the drawing.
Camera zooms into paper and drawings become real life

    Working on the Green screen

We did some shoots today using the greenscreen
Here is the unedited version of what we are thinking of doing.

    Green Screen filming

Here is a short video tutorial which shows some tips on using a green screen...........................

    Making Fake Blood

For one scene in our film we are required to have some fake blood
here is a video we have found useful to be able to make our own:

In the end we decided not to make our own fake blood as we thought for the death scene it may look to gruesome and also we did not want to create a mess on location.

    Audience

Target Audience: 16-24 both male and female
This is because of the characters that are present within the film are teens so the audiece can empathise with the characters along with the themes and issues that are raised in this short film - bullying, violence and death.

    Initial Audience Feedback
Feedback to our initil idea through the use of facebook so the majority of those who see it fall under the target audience age. As you can see, there is a positive response to our initial idea as people around our target audeince age think it is good:

    Short Film Promotion/Advertising

We could upload our short film to YouTube as it is worldwide and easily accessable, so could be a wide range of audience.
